Last Chance to See Nikifor Krynicki's Paintings in Wadowice
The temporary exhibition "Nikifor. Matejko from Krynica" is currently underway at the John Paul II Family Home Museum. Forty works by this extraordinary artist, from the collection of the Krynica-Zdrój Cultural Center, can be viewed until February 23, 2026, with admission to the museum's permanent exhibition.
The exhibition "Nikifor. Matejko from Krynica" allows us to rediscover this extraordinary artist—not only as a painter, but also as a sensitive witness to the region's culture, whose artistic intuition saved the beauty of simple places and everyday gestures from oblivion.
The exhibition is another step in realizing the idea of presenting works of art of the highest caliber in the birthplace and first work of Karol Wojtyła. The series, which began with the presentation of the only painting by Vincent van Gogh in Polish collections, continues with the extraordinary works of Epifaniusz Drowniak—one of the most outstanding representatives of naive art in Europe.
